Family mourns woman after ‘brutal’ stabbing

A Windhoek woman Delin !Nawases (25) was killed after allegedly being stabbed multiple times all over her body and having her throat slit by her boyfriend last week.

!Nawases had been in a relationship with her boyfriend for a year and six months.

Police regional crime investigations coordinator in the Khomas region deputy commissioner Chrispin Mubebo confirmed the fatal stabbing.

“The incident took place at a house in Mika Shimbuli Street in Shandumbala last Wednesday. The matter is still under investigation and the public will be notified on the updates of the case.

“I cannot confirm how many times the victim was stabbed, but I urge people to seek help when facing difficulties rather than taking the law in to their own hands,” he said.

!Nawases’ partner Dencel Kapitako (31) made his first court appearance on Monday in the Windhoek Magistrates’s Court at Katutura. He was remanded in custody to allow for further investigations, and the case was postponed to 26 October.

Family and friends shared their grievances with The Namibian yesterday about the “brutal” way !Nawases’ life was taken.
According to post-mortem results presented by the family, !Nawases was stabbed 17 times.

She will be buried on Saturday at Oponganda Cemetery in Windhoek.

!Nawases’ mother Annalize Gananses said the loss of her daughter has brought her great sorrow.

“I put all in God’s hands, because there is nothing I can do to bring my daughter back to life. I am requesting the justice system to not grant the accused bail because he remains a danger and threat to my family and the community,” Ganases said.

!Nawases father, Reinhardt Ganaseb, said he has accepted her death and has forgiven Kapitako’s family, however, the law should take its course.

!Nawases’ only sibling Dannigo Ganaseb (20) said: “Losing my only sister and sibling has created a deep hole and scar in my heart that might never heal. I was the last person she spoke to on the phone while crying out for help. He wanted my sister for himself only.”

He said Kapitako used to go through his sister’s cellphone to see who calls and texts her.

Dannigo said he got to Kapitako’s rented residence too late to save his sister as he found the police and an ambulance at the yard when !Nawases had already died.

Wendy Hangara (29), a friend of !Nawases, has described her as a polite and joyful person who she knew since 2019 where they worked together at a local store.

“She called me more than 10 times that day saying she wanted to go back home as she was afraid of her boyfriend and wanted to return to her parents’ home at Havana informal settlement,” she said.
