THE Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has called on Namibia to stand behind the Miss Namibia winners and support them in their upcoming endeavours around the world.
NBC spokesperson Beaulah Boois-Beukes says the state-broadcaster will continue to support the title holders and further encourage Namibians to also rally behind the organisation and the winners.
She was speaking at the sashing ceremony for the Miss Teen Namibia and Miss Namibia 2023 title holders in Windhoek on Wednesday.
Speaking at the same event, NBC acting chief commercial officer Nico Mwiya said the journey of the Miss Namibia and Miss Teen Namibia winners does not end in Namibia, but continues when they are sent out to the rest of the world to represent the country on global platforms.
He said Miss Namibia 2023 Jameela Uiras will be representing the country at Miss Universe on 18 November in El Salvador, while first princess Albertina Haimbala will be heading to Miss World, and second princess Martha Kautenavali will be heading to Miss Earth in Vietnam on 16 December.
Miss Teen Namibia Oriana Ribeiro will be representing Namibia at Miss Teen Universe in India 2024.
The title holders expressed their gratitude for the support from the country and the organisation, and also their excitement at representing Namibia in upcoming global competitions.
Ribeiro said she doesn’t wear her title lightly
“I understand that this is an ambassadorial position that should be carried out with the utmost respect and integrity… I want my Namibian people to know that I am fully dedicated to uplifting and ensuring that I make them proud and represent them to the best of my abilities,” Ribeiro said.
Uiras said she is excited to showcase her social cause, which is youth empowerment, on a global stage and reveal Namibia’s beauty and grace to the world.
“My social cause currently is youth empowerment and I believe that we have the ability to drive forward the sustainable and economic growth of our country and I want to take it to the international stage to show the world what ‘one Namibia, one nation’ stands for,” Uiras said.
