Windhoek High School surged to the top of the Standard Bank Namibia Secondary Schools Rugby League after a comprehensive 49-23 home victory over Windhoek Afrikaanse Privaat Skool on Saturday.
WHS, who led 24-6 at half time, scored seven tries in total, with their pacey leftwinger Jurgen Meyer leading the way with a hattrick of tries.
Centre Sammy Soobramoney, hooker Marshall Klein, flanker McHenry Kambatuko and centre Davito van Wyk scored one try each, while Van Wyk added four conversions and a penalty for a personally tally of 16 points. Flyhalf Caeden Moller added one penalty.
For WAP, flanker Walther Otto scored two tries and hooker Delano van der Berg one, while flyhalf Van der Merwe Tromp scored two penalties and one conversion.
The victory gave WHS a maximum nine points which put them at the top of the log on 50 points – nine points clear of Windhoek Gymnasium, although the latter have a match in hand.
In other matches on Saturday, Elnatan beat Walvis Bay Private School 21-20 in a thriller at Stampriet, while Moria beat Tsumeb Gimnasium 15-12 in another close encounter at Tsumeb.
With the league now nearing its end, several teams are still in the running for the knockout stages.
WAP are currently third on 33 points, followed by Walvis Bay Private School and Moria Private School from Outjo on 31 points each, Pro Ed Academy from Swakopmund on 30 points, and Tsumeb Gymnasium on 27 points.
All of the above teams can still make the semifinals, with only the bottom-placed Elnatan (22 points) out of the running for the knockout stages.
