The police are hunting for the killers of Patrick Hawala Hamupunda, also known as Waka, after he was shot and hacked to death on Sunday afternoon in Katutura.
He was allegedly attacked by suspects in Mungunda Street.
Yesterday, heavily armed police officers, Windhoek City Police members and a security company blocked off entrances to Windhoek’s Rocky Crest suburb from noon until 18h00, but there has been no official comment on whether this was linked to the murder.
Khomas police spokesperson Silas Shipandeni confirmed that a murder investigation was underway, but did not provide further details on the matter.
“If you meant arrest, not that I’m aware of, but I will … find out and revert to you,” he said.
Hamupunda, according to police sources, had over the years had run-ins with the authorities.
A friend of Hamupunda, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said those responsible for his death made sure he would not survive.
