The Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) Alumni Association on Tuesday launched its Walk-Run De Nust sport initiative.
The initiative forms part of the Alumni Social Welfare Fund that aims to assist and support the university in obtaining funds for development and helping under-privileged students.
This year’s fundraising initiative is working to source funds to assist undergraduate and postgraduate students with registration fees for the 2024 academic year.
Nust Alumni Association president Shoki Kandjimi said the vision is to assist undergraduate and postgraduate students through the funds generated.
“A committee will also be set up to review and select beneficiaries,” he said.
Kandjimi further announced that Ndawana Haitembu, an athlete and Nust alumna, has been selected as the official ambassador of the initiative.
“She will assist the association in promoting and marketing this event. Her involvement in this project will significantly amplify our efforts in making a tangible difference in the lives of those students aspiring to pursue higher education at Nust but face financial constraints,” the alumni president added.
The Walk-Run De Nust initiative, which is scheduled to take place on 30 September, will require alumni members to pay N$100, while non-members will be expected to pay N$120 to participate.
Children will pay N$50.
The 10km walk/run is scheduled to kick off at 05h00, while the 5km fun walk will kick off at 05h30.
The starting line for both routes will be the Nust main gate at Jackson Kaujeua Street.
