As good as Golden V

RARING TO GO … Golden V is ready for the music industry with her second single, titled ‘Message to Mama & Granny’.

GOLDEN V (22) is a vocalist from the north who started her musical career last year.

After ‘Message to Mama & Granny’, her second single, was released over the weekend, the young singer spoke to The Namibian about her love of music and her future plans.

The Afro-pop, gospel, and kwaito singer claims she chose the name Golden V, meaning ‘golden voice’, after being told by her peers that she had a great voice for singing.

In September 2022, the artist released her debut song, ‘Onghalamwenyo’, which explores the positive and negative sides of life.

“I am my own inspiration, but musically, I got inspired by TopCheri,” she says.

Although she first struggled to find the money to produce her songs, Golden V says she persisted and eventually received assistance to generate a few tracks.

“Finance was my biggest challenge because it costs at least N$500 to N$600 to record a full song, which includes the beat, recording and mastering.”

The singer says she got to know Ongwediva-based producer Pro-Humble of Kayon Records, who helped her realise her ambitions.

Pro-Humble is currently her manager.

Her new song, ‘Message to Mama & Granny’, was also produced by Pro-Humble.

“I wrote and sang this song for my late mom and grandma to tell them they have to listen to the sadness in my voice, and that things have not been the same since they left us, and a house without an elder has many difficulties,” Golden V says.

“Sometimes we’re good and sometimes we’re bad to each other. No one says do this, do that, and when you say this, they say that. Happiness is cracking, apartness is breaking, and love is lacking.

“My heart is tired, but I’m not going to give up on them.”

Golden V says the song’s main message is that anyone in a similar position should understand that both good and bad moments are temporary, and that they should keep moving forward.

She says she has decided against producing a video for the song, because of her current financial situation.

According to Pro-Humble, the singer still has a long way to go in her career as a musician.

“She really loves singing, understands her role as an artist, knows the value and importance of art, is very creative and positive, and is always willing to learn. This makes our working relationship a success,” he says.

“Among artists in the country and around the globe, she has all she needs to be there, and I know this because I believe in her,” he says.

Golden-V is currently writing songs for her debut album.

“I’m not sure when I’ll drop, but maybe by next year. When I’m prepared to release my album, I’ll let you know.”

She says most of her songs are based on true stories.

“The majority of them are inspiring, and they give hope to everyone out there.”
