Although multiple award-winning musician and rapper Lioness has not released any music of her own this year, her influence and appearances coupled with her onstage performances have given her fans something to always look forward to.
In a recent interview with unWrap.online, Lioness shared insights into her career as well as her upcoming single, emphasising the importance of taking time to gain a fresh perspective on her artistry and continuously striving for growth.
“I honestly believe in taking some time away just to look at things from a different perspective. So, I’ve always been working on changing up things and trying to grow as an artist,” she said.
The ‘Superstar’ hitmaker said one of her accomplishments this year was being the keynote speaker at the Girl Up event, an experience she cherished due to her passion for empowering the girl child.
“It was really special to me because I’m passionate about the girl child,” she noted.
Lioness was also recently awarded the best female artist and best rising star in Southern Africa awards at the Shining Star Africa Awards held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Lioness described her latest single ‘Funk’ as an experimental departure from her usual style. The song is produced by Preezy and she said the track is part of a larger project that will showcase a fresh and vibrant collaboration between the two.
“What I can say about my upcoming single ‘Funk’ is it’s very experimental, extremely experimental. Prezzy and I had worked together before and we’ve been friends for a while and so it’s really exciting to work with someone fresh and vibrant who also knows the industry really well.”
Furthermore, she also believes the local music industry is flourishing, with more corporate support for artists and better sponsorship opportunities.
“I feel like the corporates are coming out and appreciating and supporting artists. Artists are getting better sponsorship, and it’s really lovely to see that they are being credited for their hard work,” she said.
Looking ahead, Lioness teased more music and music videos, performances and a commitment to supporting the local music scene.
