The police have arrested a 24-year-old Namibian man in connection with the death of Gerome Helgrian (41), who is suspected to have been raped, robbed and murdered at Lüderitz in the ||Kharas region a week ago.
According to the police report, the deceased was stabbed with an unknown object, inflicting over 40 stab wounds all over the body. He was robbed of his cellphone and a 43-inch television set. The television set and sound bar have been recovered, the police said.
||Kharas regional police commander Marius Katamila said a concerned community member alerted the police after Helgrian, who stayed alone, had been last seen on 16 September.
“The door was broken open and the man was found lying on the floor besides the bed, with multiple stab wounds. He was declared dead on arrival at Lüderitz State Hospital,” said Katamila.
Katamila said the police have opened a case of murder, roberry with aggravating circumstances, housebreaking with intent to steal and theft, and rape.
“The suspect is arrested and will appear the in Lüderitz Magistrate’s Court on Monday,” said Katamila.
Police continue investigations into the matter.
