Namibia’s national senior netball team, the Desert Jewels, have been hard, preparing for the upcoming Africa Netball Championships billed for Botswana in November.
Netball Namibia (NN) today announced a star-studded squad of eleven players to represent the nation at the African netball spectacle.
NN emphasized the importance of the championship for Namibia, as it presents a valuable opportunity to elevate their international ranking, while also showcasing their talent on the continent.
NN president Rebekka Goagoses expressed satisfaction with the training camp and the team’s readiness to compete in Botswana. She emphasised significance of the tournament, noting that it will provide the players with the exposure and international game time they need to sharpen their skills. The competition will mark the Debmarine Desert Jewels’ first international appearance since January this year.
“We are out as a united Namibian national team to go and compete against the best in Africa,”
Goagoses said. She further extended her gratitude to Africa Netball for affording Namibia a valuable opportunity to contend for the continental crown.
“Namibia is eager to participate in the Africa Netball Championships, aiming to make a strong impact and demonstrate our nation’s dedication to the sport. As we prepare for this exciting event, we also hope to secure more test series against other nations to further enhance our competitiveness and rankings,” she said.
The Namibian players that were called up are as follows: Tillie Kamati, Zantè Farmer, Selma Bittler, Venjekerera Maharero, Anna Kaspar, Anna Shipanga, Uendjisuvera Kangumine, Emmy Junior Kutako, Desdamona Tjirera, Louise Dreamy Kausehue, Sunshine Murangi and Cornelia Corry Mupenda.
