The chairman’s team beat the captain’s team by two points to win the annual Tournament of Champions at the Windhoek Golf & Country Club on Saturday.
The competition was the culmination of a season-long monthly battle for 24 sought-after places in the final. Qualified players were divided into a chairman and a captain’s team, with Windhoek Lager sponsoring the captain’s team, also known as ‘The Brewers,’ while the Windhoek Golf & Country Club resort sponsored the chairman’s team, also known as ‘The Hoteliers.’
The proceedings already started on Wednesday evening when the kit handover and draw took place, in the upper lounge of the club in the presence of the sponsors.
Saturday was a long day as all the players had to complete 36 holes, consisting of a betterball competition in the morning session and a foursomes competition in the afternoon.
At the end of the day the chairman’s team took a commanding lead of two points, after the betterball was halved at 3-3, while the chairman’s team won the foursomes 4-2.
Sunday’s singles competition went down to the wire with nothing separating the teams throughout the day’s play.
At the end, they had to settle for a 6-6 draw, with the result that the chairman’s team won the tournament with 13 points to 11.
