The National Democratic Party’s (NDP) new councillor, Mukendwa Simasiku, was officially sworn-in to represent the party in the Katima Mulilo local authority council on Tuesday.
The NDP chose Simasiku to replace Watson Kalaluka, who was recalled after being found guilty of multiple misconduct charges in July.
Simasiku was sworn-in by magistrate Davy Kambinda.
NDP president Martin Lukato implored Simasiku not to become a tool of others but to represent the party’s and its electorate’s interests to the fullest.
He said Simasiku has a lot of catching up to do with regards to service delivery to the masses because his official swearing-in was delayed since July.
“However, now that you’re in office we are confident that you will serve the masses as per our party manifesto,” he said.
Zambezi regional governor Lawrence Sampofu also called on Simasiku to work together with the other councillors to fight poverty, unemployment and crime.
“Let’s maintain unity, as it’s the best weapon against underdevelopment, tribalism and corruption. Listen to the community’s needs and attend to them as a team,” he said.
