Charlo Dreyer and Ester Abraham won the Namibian male and female wrestler of the year awards following the national championships at the SKW hall over the weekend.
Both wrestlers excelled for Namibia at the Africa Wrestling Championships in Tunisia in May.
Dreyer won two medals in the junior boys u17 45kg category – he won gold in the greco-roman and bronze in the freestyle categories. In the greco roman category, he beat Helmi Chihi of Tunisia in the final, while in the freestyle category he finished third after losing to Mustapha Batnini of Tunisia and Giammello of South Africa.
Abrahams won a silver medal in the 59kg junior women’s freestyle category after losing to Farah Hussein of Egypt in the final.
Windhoek Wrestling Club won the club of the year award; Paulus Alweendo won the technical wrestler of the year award; Lafras Uys won the referee of the year award; and Rozanne van der Merwe won the administrator of the year award.
