Two men were shot and injured at an entertainment venue at Okahandja’s Nau-aib on Saturday at around 20h30.
The two men both sustained gunshot wounds during the altercation.
The 26-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of his abdomen, while the 19-year-old was wounded in the stomach.
According to reports, a quarrel erupted between the victims and a 30-year-old Namibian male employed as a security guard at the venue.
The dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, leading to the security guard allegedly drawing a revolver and shooting both victims.
The wounded individuals were transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
The victims are said to be in critical condition. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were transferred to the Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek for further treatment.
Law enforcement swiftly responded to the incident, apprehending the suspect, who is now in custody. He will appear in the Okahandja Magistrates Court on Monday. The charges against him include two counts of attempted murder.
Police investigations are ongoing, as authorities work to uncover the details surrounding the altercation and the events leading up to the shooting.
Okahandja resident Amanda Goases took to Facebook to air her discontent with the venue where the incident occurred.
“That place was supposed to have been closed a long time ago… Not the first shooting to take place there.
“It’s not conducive for that area. Our kids are not safe. Drugs are involved. Prostitution is on another level. Parking is an issue. One can’t even drive past there in peace… Clearly the owner has no control,” Goases said.
