LOCAL organisations have expressed their grief, following the death of president Hage Geingob yesterday.
The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) also paid tribute to Geingob.
“On behalf of the board, management and staff of the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA), we extend our deepest condolences to the first family and the people of Namibia on the passing of president Hage Geingob,” Salomo Hei, the chairperson of the NSA board, said yesterday.
He said Geingob’s legacy is characterised by compassion, inclusivity and a commitment to the well-being of every citizen.
“His dedication to creating a society in which every individual is valued and considered has left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of the people,” he said.
“We had the privilege of witnessing president Geingob’s unwavering dedication to the principles of inclusivity, justice, equality and unity.
“His leadership was marked by a vision that transcended political boundaries, emphasising the importance of a collective effort to build a better future for all,” said Hei.
“During these challenging times, we stand in solidarity with the nation as we navigate the complexities of grieving. May the memory of president Hage Geingob serve as a source of inspiration for continued progress and unity within the nation,” he said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the first family, the government and the Namibian people. May his soul rest in peace.”
The Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN) said independent Namibia has lost a pioneer who served the country until the end.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of the association by chief executive Gitta Paetzold, HAN said: “May his legacy live on, and his soul rest in eternal peace.
“To the family, the Office of the President and advisers, the Cabinet and the Namibian government, we wish all the strength and wisdom needed to lead the Namibian House through the unique and unexpected challenges ahead.
“Let us, as Namibians, join hands to ensure that together we steer our nation through this difficult time.”
Tour operator James David of James David Tours yesterday said Geingob has done a lot to uplift the tourism sector in the country, including attending events like Expo 2020 Dubai.
David said Geingob has led the recovery of the tourism sector from the devastating effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“He even initiated cross-border travel between Namibia and Botswana using national ID cards,” he said.
The National Commission on Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) has described Geingob as a visionary leader whose dedication to the nation’s development and prosperity was unwavering.
“His commitment to enhancing the fields of research, science, technology and innovation in our country has left an indelible mark on our progress and will continue to inspire future generations.
“Under his leadership Namibia made significant strides towards achieving green, inclusive and sustainable development and fostering a culture of innovation,” the NCRST said in a statement.
