President Hage Geingob has been described as a man who served the Namibian nation with passion by former Namibian president Hifikepunye Pohamba.
Speaking at Geingob’s memorial service on Saturday, Pohamba said he met Geingob in 1962 at a bus stop at Tsumeb.
He said Geingob was assigned to lead the delegation back home after 27 years of being in exile and after returning to the country, Geingob was appointed to spearhead the Swapo election campaign.
“They set up the election points across the county that ensured that Swapo wins the elections in 1990,” said Pohamba.
He said when he handed over the realm of leadership to Geingob, he knew Namibia was in good hands.
“We have seen what the administration of Geingob has achieved even amid the turbulence in the global sphere,” said Pohamba.
He added that the passing of Geingob and all other heroes must remind us that the peace and freedom we enjoy in Namibia today was achieved through bloodshed.
