The //Kharas netball team is well prepared and determined to reach the top at this year’s Nedbank Namibian Newspaper Cup that takes place in Gobabis over the Easter weekend.
These are the words of netball head coach of //Kharas region, Poppie Sekwate.
“They have always lost at the group stages before. But this time around I think we can give the other regions a run for their money. We will manage if we stay focussed and concentrate – then I think //Kharas can do it. They are young, positive and fit, they are fighters and they can win,” Sekwate said on Wednesday.
She added that they have been thoroughly trained both physically and mentally.
“We had two days to do fitness and they usually practice in their towns. The layout of technical things was just so difficult for me. I just told them that their mindset should be ready for anything that is going to happen. But so far so good.”
“We had a friendly yesterday against the Namibian Defence Force, and the girls beat them 41-17, so I hope that it will also go well in Gobabis,” she said.
The newly-established team which was created during the Governor’s Cup is excited to participate in the tournament.
“For me, it is very good because it will give these players exposure. It is a challenge, because some don’t know the town and some have never taken part, ” Sekwate added.
