President Nangolo Mbumba plans to meet southern traditional leaders after consulting with their counterparts in Namibia’s northern and eastern regions.
He has also denied claims of favouritism regarding the traditional leaders he is meeting.
In a media statement issued on Sunday, the Presidency said Mbumba plans to deal with negotiations about the 1904-1908 genocide when he meets the chiefs.
“In the first week of April 2024, president Mbumba plans to visit the southern regions of Namibia where he will again use that opportunity to consult with traditional leaders in the Hardap and //Kharas regions,” the statement reads.
These meetings will form part of negotiations between Germany and Namibia about the genocide.
“The president is equally planning a schedule of consultations with traditional leaders in the affected communities of the 1904 genocide,” the Presidency said.
Mbumba will also have public meetings and consultations with affected Namibians.
“The Namibian public will be informed accordingly about the dates for such meetings and consultations whose purpose is to advance shared understanding with the objective of opening a new chapter of relations between Namibia and Germany on the question of the 1904 genocide,” the Presidency stated.
