The Oniipa Town Council is calling on creatives at the town to take part in the ‘Identify My Talent’ project before 26 April.
Project chairperson Liili Saara Kasita told The Namibian last week the recently initiated project aims to identify untapped talent in the community.
“With a strong commitment to fostering creativity, empowerment and inclusivity, this initiative seeks to provide a platform for individuals to explore their passions, hone their skills and gain recognition for their unique talents,” said Kasita.
“The project aims to inspire, uplift and celebrate all the talents and unique skills within our community,” she added.
The ‘Empowerment through Talent Recognition’ initiative aims to empower individuals by providing them with opportunities to discover and showcase their talents.
“By recognising and celebrating their unique abilities, we strive to instil confidence, self-esteem and a sense of pride among participants, encouraging them to pursue their passions and realise their full potential,” said Kasita.
The ‘Community Engagement and Cohesion’ initiative aims to foster a sense of belonging, connection and unity among Oniipa residents.
“By bringing people together to celebrate talent and creativity, we aim to strengthen social bonds, promote mutual respect and create a supportive environment where everyone feels valued and respected,” said Kasita.
The project targets schoolpupils from grades 1 to 12 at nine Oniipa schools, who are eager to explore and showcase their talents in singing, dancing, drawing and more, as well as youths aged between 18 and 35.
“The ‘Identify My Talent’ talent show and main event will be held on a chosen date that will be applicable to the schools’ calendar and the availability of the community,” said Kasita.
This will provide a platform for individuals to perform and showcase their skills in front of a live audience, with opportunities for recognition and prizes.
Teachers from the nine schools will be tasked with preparing auditions at their respective schools to identify at least 10 people, including groups, to compete in the main event.
Kasita said there will be mentorship programmes with mentors in various fields, offering guidance, support and encouragement to aspiring talents, helping them navigate their creative journeys and achieve their goals.
“Special community events such as art exhibitions, music festivals and sport tournaments will be organised to celebrate the talents and achievements of our community members,” she said.
Kasita added that participation in the initiative offers numerous benefits for individuals, including opportunities for self-discovery and personal growth, exposure and recognition in the community, access to training, mentorship, networking opportunities, potential for career development and advancement, and a sense of belonging and pride in contributing to a vibrant and supportive community.
“In conclusion, the ‘Identify My Talent’ initiative represents a unique and impactful opportunity for our community to come together in celebration of talent, creativity and diversity. Any support for this initiative will not only contribute to the development and enrichment of our community, but will also play a vital role in empowering individuals to pursue their passions and dreams,” Kasita said.
