THE City of Windhoek has recommended Niilo Taapopi as its new Chief Executive Officer to the Ministry of Regional, Local Government and Housing.
If approved by the Minister of Regional, Local Government and Housing Joel Kaapanda, Taapopi, who is the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, will replace Martin Shipanga who resigned suddenly in November last year to join the Commercial Bank of Namibia as its CEO.It is still not clear when Taapopi will take up his new position. He was the preferred candidate, although George Mayumbelo, the city’s senior manager for community service, Premier Electric CEO Festus Lameck and at least one other candidate scored higher than him in both the interviews and other tests.Windhoek Mayor Matheus Shikongo and the Chairman of the Management Committee, Bjoern von Finckenstein, allegedly side-stepped the results of interviews and competency tests in their drive to install Taapopi.
