A SERIOUS case of animal abuse was reported to the Walvis Bay SPCA on Monday morning after a group of seemingly intoxicated people burnt and cut a miniature sausage dog, in the photo above.
The dog had escaped from its home into the neighbours’ yard, who were having a braai, and, at that stage, apparently intoxicated. When the dog entered their yard, they decided to burn it with a piece of wood from the fire.As if this was not enough, the SPCA kennel managers told The Namibian, they then tried to cut its back open with a knife.”Why would anyone want to do such an inhumane act? The SPCA will not tolerate cruelty! The animal was immediately taken to the vet and is at the Walvis Bay SPCA at present on its way to a full recovery, ” an outraged SPCA spokeswoman said.Helen Lohmann and Nicole Meyer said that “many people regard animals as possessions, but many others see them as family members – family members they love dearly. The only mistake animal lovers make, is to hope that others love animals too. This is not always the case.If any sign of abuse is observed, contact your local SPCA immediately so that action will be taken. We at the SPCA Walvis Bay are on 24 hour stand-by and can be contacted at the following numbers,” they said.Contact numbers are: Helen Lohmann at 081 129 3387, Nicole Meyer at 081 278 7650 and the office number is 064 204041.When the dog entered their yard, they decided to burn it with a piece of wood from the fire.As if this was not enough, the SPCA kennel managers told The Namibian, they then tried to cut its back open with a knife.”Why would anyone want to do such an inhumane act?
