Stars in Britain lobby for aid

LONDON – A host of film and rock stars including Jude Law, Minnie Driver and Bono, signed an open letter yesterday to Prime Minister Tony Blair appealing for Britain to give more aid to the world’s poorest countries.

The letter will reach the government as it decides British budgets for the next three years, determining the size of the pot for aid until 2008. The letter listed several reasons why action must be taken now.”Because 6 400 people are dying every day in Africa from AIDS.Because over 100 million children in the world don’t get to go to primary school.Because every year 525 000 mothers die in childbirth.””Because we want to live in a more peaceful and secure world,” it added.- Nampa-AFPThe letter listed several reasons why action must be taken now.”Because 6 400 people are dying every day in Africa from AIDS.Because over 100 million children in the world don’t get to go to primary school.Because every year 525 000 mothers die in childbirth.””Because we want to live in a more peaceful and secure world,” it added.- Nampa-AFP
