Slain woman takes her cats to the grave with her

THE three cats of the 44-year-old German woman who was shot to death at Swakopmund on Friday were put to sleep yesterday.

Alexandra Mooren, who brought her cats from Germany after she had decided to settle in Namibia, left clear instructions in her last will and testament regarding her pets. “I think more owners should make such a provision in their will for their pets,” said Petra Sada of the Swakopmund SPCA.”People never know what to do with the pets left behind.”She confirmed to The Namibian that a vet had put down the three cats.”He went to Mooren’s home this morning and put them to sleep.”This was the best way,” said Sada, “as they were all three rescued cats and not very sociable. It would have been very difficult to find new homes for them.”Sada said the cats were apparently going to be cremated and their ashes would be kept with their owner’s.It seems that not everybody was happy with the provision in Mooren’s testament.A friend of Mooren apparently offered N$10 000 to keep the cats alive.”This would have been problematic as she would probably have had to obtain a court order. The process could have taken months,” said Sada.In the end it was decided to respect Mooren’s wish.”I think more owners should make such a provision in their will for their pets,” said Petra Sada of the Swakopmund SPCA.”People never know what to do with the pets left behind.”She confirmed to The Namibian that a vet had put down the three cats.”He went to Mooren’s home this morning and put them to sleep.”This was the best way,” said Sada, “as they were all three rescued cats and not very sociable. The process could have taken months,” said Sada.In the end it was decided to respect Mooren’s wish.
