THE leader of the National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo), Chief Kuaima Riruako will contest the November presidential election, the party announced on Tuesday.

Nudo Secretary-General, Joseph Kauandenge, said at a media briefing that Riruako would be the party’s candidate for the presidency. “We will prove that Chief [Riruako] enjoys support from across the entire Namibia and not just within the party or the Herero people,” said Kauandenge.Riruako joins the ruling Swapo candidate Hifikepunye Pohamba and Congress of Democrats (CoD) leader Ben Ulenga in the race to State House.Riruako is a Paramount Chief of the Ovaherero and a former Member of Parliament, where he represented the opposition DTA party. He resigned from the DTA a year ago to revive Nudo.Nudo has, in the meanwhile, also announced that its highest executive body, the Central Committee, will meet in Windhoek on August 27-28 to compile a list of candidates for the November National Assembly election. The Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for November 15 and 16, while the Regional Councils elections take place on the 29th and 30th of the same month. The party’s highest policy-making body, the congress, will meet sometime early in 2005 to elect a new party leadership.- Nampa”We will prove that Chief [Riruako] enjoys support from across the entire Namibia and not just within the party or the Herero people,” said Kauandenge.Riruako joins the ruling Swapo candidate Hifikepunye Pohamba and Congress of Democrats (CoD) leader Ben Ulenga in the race to State House.Riruako is a Paramount Chief of the Ovaherero and a former Member of Parliament, where he represented the opposition DTA party. The party’s highest policy-making body, the congress, will meet sometime early in 2005 to elect a new party leadership.- Nampa
