THE Office of the Ombudsman opened a regional office in Keetmanshoop on Thursday.Ombudsman John Walters said at the opening that his office had received 325 complaints from the Karas and Hardap regions since the beginning of the year.
An average of 255 complaints a year had been received between 2000 and 2004, he said. Walters said most of the complaints related to issues dating back a number of years, and would have been submitted earlier if there had been an Ombudsman office in the southern region.He said the regional Ombudsman’s office would contribute to the fight against corruption, maladministration and human rights violations.The establishment of the southern regional office was made possible by funding of N$930 000 from the Dutch and Finnish embassies in Namibia.Walters said most of the complaints related to issues dating back a number of years, and would have been submitted earlier if there had been an Ombudsman office in the southern region.He said the regional Ombudsman’s office would contribute to the fight against corruption, maladministration and human rights violations.
