GOALS by Rudi Louw, Rudolph Bester and Meraai Swartbooi gave the President’s Eleven a 3-2 win over the visiting Premeiro de Agosto side from Angola at the Independence Stadium on Saturday.
The match was part of the team’s preparation for the Cosafa Castle Cup matches that will take place next month. The team was due to play another match yesterday against a side of students who form part of Tisan, while a Namibia Premier League (NPL) XI was supposed to play against Premeiro de Agosto.Tisan also used the match as preparation for their tertiary institutions’ matches that are lined up in South Africa soon. The Presidents XI beat Premeiro de Agosto, three days after the Angolan league toppers pulled a 0-0 draw against a Namibian under 23 side at the same venue. The team arrived in the country courtesy of the Buchschule Civics administration, who wanted to give the national teams an opportunity to face foreign opposition.Civics, who are the Namibian league champions for the just-ended season, are not part of the matches, but said the matches will be good for the national selectors to see which players they can include in the eventual national side.At this stage, the Presidents XI serves as a shadow team to the Brave Warriors side, which still needs to be finalised before the Cosafa tournament.
