WINDHOEK – Namibian boxer Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses has been ranked 11th on the World Boxing Association (WBA) world ranking, which was released on Friday.
On the same day, Moses was crowned as Namibia’s 2006 Sport Achiever of the Year. He won the WBA Intercontinental Lightweight title earlier this year after a unanimous points victory over 12 rounds against Mihaila Mutu of France. In 2005, the hard-hitting boxer clinched the WBA Pan-African title when he beat South African opponent Joni Simphiwe following a sixth-round knockout.Yesterday, boxing promoter Nestor Tobias said that Moses’ 11th ranking means that he can now vie for world titles.”His ranking is good for us, as most contenders like picking up challengers from such rankings,” he said.Meanwhile, Tobias has questioned the Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) sport award committee’s criteria for choosing the Sportsman of the Year, claiming that Moses deserved the title.According to him, the sport awards must not discriminate between professional and amateur athletes.Moses will next take on Frederick Gosset from France in a ten-round non-title bout on November 11 at the Ongwediva Trade Fair Centre.NampaHe won the WBA Intercontinental Lightweight title earlier this year after a unanimous points victory over 12 rounds against Mihaila Mutu of France. In 2005, the hard-hitting boxer clinched the WBA Pan-African title when he beat South African opponent Joni Simphiwe following a sixth-round knockout.Yesterday, boxing promoter Nestor Tobias said that Moses’ 11th ranking means that he can now vie for world titles.”His ranking is good for us, as most contenders like picking up challengers from such rankings,” he said.Meanwhile, Tobias has questioned the Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) sport award committee’s criteria for choosing the Sportsman of the Year, claiming that Moses deserved the title.According to him, the sport awards must not discriminate between professional and amateur athletes.Moses will next take on Frederick Gosset from France in a ten-round non-title bout on November 11 at the Ongwediva Trade Fair Centre.Nampa
