RESIDENTS of Omafo village in the Ohangwena Region are not affected by the planned construction of the Northland City shopping complex in the town of Helao Nafidi, according to the Chairperson of PLN Solutions, Peter Kavaongelwa.
PLN Solutions is the majority shareholder in the controversial project. Kavaongelwa said yesterday that although Omafo village forms part of Helao Nafidi, the Northland City complex would not be built there.”We suspect that there is somebody developing there.Whoever is doing something there should not put the blame on Northland,” he claimed. He charged that media reports that their projects would affect Omafo residents were not true and were negatively affecting the project’s fundraising activities.Kavaongelwa said the developers were prepared to compensate those who had to make way for the development. The newly proclaimed town of Helao Nafadi encompasses the villages of Omafo, Ohangwena, Oshikango, Engela and Onuno.Residents of Omafo village have approached the Legal Assistance Centre (LAC) to help them stop the developmen. They charge that the Helao Nafidi Town Council wants to relocate them without fair compensation.Kavaongelwa said yesterday that although Omafo village forms part of Helao Nafidi, the Northland City complex would not be built there.”We suspect that there is somebody developing there.Whoever is doing something there should not put the blame on Northland,” he claimed. They charge that the Helao Nafidi Town Council wants to relocate them without fair compensation.
