AN employee of the Social Security Commission (SSC) has been dismissed after it was discovered that he was allegedly involved in fraudulent activities.
Maxwell Spanneberg of the registry division at the Windhoek head office was suspected of using the computer passwords of other staff members to lodge, process and authorise fraudulent sick-leave claims. “This irregular and fraudulent activity was uncovered by suspecting colleagues, who reported the matter and Mr Spanneberg was suspended on August 30 and a full-scale investigation was carried out,” Rino Muranda, corporate affairs officer at the SSC, said yesterday.Spanneberg was dismissed on November 2 after a two-day disciplinary hearing, which wrapped up on that day.”He was found guilty of misconduct with regard to the SSC staff policy and procedure manual and was dismissed accordingly,” Muranda said in a statement.”The SSC is now finalising documentation to lay criminal charges with the commercial crime branch of the Police against Spanneberg to ensure that the suspect will face the full wrath of the law,” Muranda added.”This irregular and fraudulent activity was uncovered by suspecting colleagues, who reported the matter and Mr Spanneberg was suspended on August 30 and a full-scale investigation was carried out,” Rino Muranda, corporate affairs officer at the SSC, said yesterday.
