THE NG Kerk congregation at Oshakati, in conjunction with the Northern Motorcycling Club (NMCC), held a Christmas party and brought gifts for 200 orphans at Oshikuku village in the Omusati Region on Saturday.
Dominee Pine Pienaar told The Namibian that his church and social clubs such as the NMCC hold Christmas parties for orphans in the North every year. The children received presents such as toys, clothes and sweets donated by church and bike club members.”We held a Christmas party for orphaned children at Ondangwa last year, and this year we decided to do the same for Oshikuku orphans,” he said. The President of the Northern Motorcycling Club, Johan Vogel from Ondangwa, says his club has members in Oshakati, Ondangwa, Oshikango, Tsumeb and other northern towns, who collect money and other donations for less privileged children.More than a dozen motorcyclists from several towns rode to Oshikuku on Saturday to attend the children’s party and hand over presents. The unusual sound of big motorcycles roaring through the countryside drew people to Oshikuku, where some of the riders performed stunts for the appreciative crowd of cheering and ululating villagers.”These people are really doing something good for our orphan children, who are in dire need of many things, especially food, clothes, toys to play with and many other things,” said Rebekka Shikongo of the Christ Hope Orphanage.
