IT appears that Uramin’s Trekkopje project will be the next uranium mine in Namibia to go into production, according to a press release from the company.
The company’s consulting group recently upped its estimate of the project’s uranium ore potential by 134 per cent. The latest estimate is that the deposit contains 335 million tonnes of average grade uranium.Based on this estimate, Uramin is planning a mine that will process a minimum of 100 000 tonnes of ore a day, and produce nine million pounds of uranium oxide a year.Ian Stalker, Chief Executive of Uramin, said the resource estimate had exceeded the company’s expectations.”Our project schedule resulting in first production in the fourth quarter of 2008 is on track,” he said.Exploration drilling has now started on recently identified targets where possible extensions to the Klein Trekkopje deposit and newly defined ore channels have been identified.
