WINDHOEK – The National Committee on the Welfare of the Ex-freedom Fighters has announced that the former fighters will go ahead with a demonstration on the fourth of next month.
“The day is definite, we are not going to be blocked by anyone,” the Spokesperson of the committee, Alex Kamwi, told Nampa yesterday. Kamwi said: “Fourth June is the best day for us.Enough is enough!” He said the demonstration will start at Greenwell Matongo Hall heading to the Ministry of War Veterans.”We have exhausted all avenues which was supposed to solve the issue,” he said, adding that the demonstrators will not leave the ministry’s premises until their demands are met.The ex-freedom fighters are demanding to be paid N$500 000 each and their families to be taken care of.They are also demanding to be given concessions in the fisheries and mining sectors. They also want to be paid a monthly allowance of N$8 000 each.”If there is no response from the ministry, we will be part of the ministry until they make up their minds,” he said.”We don’t want houses, we don’t want projects. We are not here for projects, what we need is money,” Kamwi fumed. He called on all ex-freedom fighters countrywide, who are serious with their lives, to join the demonstration.Kamwi alleged that the committee is under pressure from ex-PLAN combatants in the Namibian Police, NDF and other government ministries to proceed with the demonstration.Efforts to get comment from the Ministry of War Veterans proved futile.NampaKamwi said: “Fourth June is the best day for us.Enough is enough!” He said the demonstration will start at Greenwell Matongo Hall heading to the Ministry of War Veterans.”We have exhausted all avenues which was supposed to solve the issue,” he said, adding that the demonstrators will not leave the ministry’s premises until their demands are met.The ex-freedom fighters are demanding to be paid N$500 000 each and their families to be taken care of.They are also demanding to be given concessions in the fisheries and mining sectors. They also want to be paid a monthly allowance of N$8 000 each.”If there is no response from the ministry, we will be part of the ministry until they make up their minds,” he said.”We don’t want houses, we don’t want projects. We are not here for projects, what we need is money,” Kamwi fumed. He called on all ex-freedom fighters countrywide, who are serious with their lives, to join the demonstration.Kamwi alleged that the committee is under pressure from ex-PLAN combatants in the Namibian Police, NDF and other government ministries to proceed with the demonstration.Efforts to get comment from the Ministry of War Veterans proved futile.Nampa
