THE protest by a group of war veterans outside the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs in Windhoek continued for a fourth day yesterday, despite a request from the Police for them to move.
Speaking to The Namibian yesterday afternoon, spokesperson for the group, Alex Kamwi, said he had had a meeting with the Inspector General of the Police during the morning, at which his group was once again asked to leave the premises. On Wednesday, Minister of Veterans’ Affairs, Ngarikutuke Tjiriange, asked the vets to pack and go.Kamwi said they would only be prepared to move once an eviction order had been granted.”We’re waiting for that. And if it comes, we will look at it.If it is threatening, we will challenge it,” Kamwi told reporters yesterday afternoon. The former fighters are demanding compensation from Government for the role they played in the liberation struggle.
