POLICE have been asked to investigate charges of incitement to public violence, malicious damage to property, sedition and conspiracy against the Secretary of the Swapo Youth League, Elijah Ngurare.
The charges against Ngurare were laid last week by the National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) after he refused to withdraw statements he had made at a recent Youth League media briefing in defence of Sam Nujoma. During the August 8 briefing Ngurare told the media that militant youth throughout Namibia were on high alert to defend Nujoma.”The NSHR and its sponsors must take further note that the militants of the Swapo Party Youth League, many of them have not forgotten how to operate the bazookas; they know where the trenches are,” Ngurare said earlier. He also said if anyone dared to touch Nujoma a “time bomb will explode”.The NSHR, through their lawyers PF Koep and Partners, wrote to Ngurare, demanding that he withdraw the statements publicly within seven days.Ngurare refused to do so and the NSHR laid a charge against him.During the August 8 briefing Ngurare told the media that militant youth throughout Namibia were on high alert to defend Nujoma.”The NSHR and its sponsors must take further note that the militants of the Swapo Party Youth League, many of them have not forgotten how to operate the bazookas; they know where the trenches are,” Ngurare said earlier. He also said if anyone dared to touch Nujoma a “time bomb will explode”.The NSHR, through their lawyers PF Koep and Partners, wrote to Ngurare, demanding that he withdraw the statements publicly within seven days.Ngurare refused to do so and the NSHR laid a charge against him.
