Man claims to be B1 Butcher

A 50-year-old man was arrested at Otjiwarongo on Tuesday after he told various people that he was responsible for the murder of a woman whose head and arms were found at Grootfontein on Monday.

One of the women that he told the story to, a cashier at a shop in Otjiwarongo, had to be hospitalised and treated for shock. The man was buying two daily newspapers from the Otjiwarongo Spar Supermarket, Police said yesterday, when he noticed that the cashier was appalled by a photograph of the murdered woman’s decomposing head on the front page of one of the newspapers.”He apparently told her (the cashier) to take a good look at him because he was the one who did it, and that he would do the same thing to her,” the Regional Commander for Otjozondjupa, Deputy Commissioner Joseph Anghuwo.told The Namibian yesterday. This sent the woman into a state of shock and she related the story to her superior.A manager at the shop, who insisted on not being named, said the cashier was first taken to the local clinic, which referred her to the State Hospital for observation. She reportedly remained in hospital until yesterday morning. After leaving the shop, the man apparently went into a nearby pharmacy, where he made the same claim about being the killer of the as yet unidentified woman. The Police were called in and they arrested the man, who Anghuwo confirmed was a Windhoek resident who had been in town attending a workshop. He was released after being questioned and his details were taken, the regional commander said.Police are considering charging the man with making death threats, Anghuwo said.Police have also asked for advice from the Prosecutor General’s office.”There was a suggestion to open a threat case, but we’re not sure whether that will hold in court,” Anghuwo said.”We don’t want to sit with a civil case for wrongful arrest,” he said. The remains of the murdered woman are still at the Windhoek Police mortuary, where an investigation into the cause of her death continues. Her head and arms were found discarded in a plastic refuse bag behind the Grootfontein State Hospital on Monday morning. He was released after being questioned and his details were taken, the regional commander said.Police are considering charging the man with making death threats, Anghuwo said.
