Big Brother Africa: More on Meryl …

SHE was evicted on Sunday, appeared live on Channel O on Monday and jetted back home to be met by scores of well-wishers and fans on Tuesday.

Our girl is no longer in the Big Brother Africa house but trust me when I say that she is only just getting started. This is certainly not the end of the road for this beautiful young woman. She may have lost out on the US$100 000 but with her own unique brand of craziness, confidence and energy, she is sure to go far in the world of entertainment. At the young age of 21, Meryl handles a room full of journalists like a pro.She is every bit as entertaining in real life as she was in the BBA house. As good as she looks on the screen, she is much slimmer and more attractive in person. The well-spoken and confident young woman addressed journalists at a press conference in Windhoek where she had the room in stitches – regaling us with her experiences and exploits in the house.BEING REAL “I never had a game plan or a strategy. From the beginning, my only plan was to be myself. The same Meryl you see right here is the same Meryl you saw in the house. That loud and wild girl. That’s me! “I told my mom not to expect me to change.I was going to play the game as Meryl. It was a very different environment with 11 other people from different cultures, with different personalities.I don’t think a strategy would have gotten me very far.I was just me and I was happy with that!” ON SMOKING “My mom was quite shocked to discover that I smoke. We never actually spoke about it but she always taught me that whatever I do in life would have consequences – one way or the other.I know her though, she is probably just waiting for the right moment to give me a lecture about the dangers of smoking …”The first week of BBA was pure hell. Not only were we not allowed to eat meat, but Big Brother confiscated my cigarettes.I told Biggie, that was definitely not cool! I kept asking ‘can I smoke?’ and he would say ‘Big Brother will get back to you’.”A HOUSE DIVIDED “After my eviction on Sunday night, I had the opportunity to go behind the scenes and look in on my former fellow housemates.Since then I have had the chance to watch a bit of Big Brother here and there but I feel really sad to see how everyone has changed.Lerato is quiet, Max is worried and stressed.I can see that he is very uncertain about where he stands in this game. The house is definitely divided.”HANDLING CRITICISM “Criticism will always be there.Even before I went into the house, I had to deal with it – from friends and people in general. It is something that cannot be avoided.I don’t let it break me down as a person, in fact – it builds me up! I think that criticism is a good thing, it encourages me to be better, to achieve more …”BARING ALL “Being watched by cameras 24 hours a day is really hectic, hey! Knowing that the cameras are always watching, whether I am taking a shower, using the toilet, brushing my teeth or kissing someone. There is really no place to hide! “It is something that I will have to get used to, knowing that people know what I look like naked, they know what kind of underwear I wear …”RUGBY FAN “I absolutely love rugby. In fact – when I was in primary school I remember going to my mother in tears because I really wanted to be on the rugby team but the school would not allow it.They probably thought ‘who is this crazy little black girl wanting to play rugby’.I am so proud of our [World Cup] team and I support them, win or lose. They have shown the world that they can compete and they make us proud.”MEETING MERYL With her funky, crazy and fun personality, Meryl’s eviction party is sure to be a night to remember.Come along and meet her at La Dee Da’s tomorrow, from 21h00 until late.Tickets will be on sale at the door at N$40.This is certainly not the end of the road for this beautiful young woman. The well-spoken and confident young woman addressed journalists at a press conference in Windhoek where she had the room in stitches – regaling us with her experiences and exploits in the house.
