POLICE at Ondangwa and Oshakati are looking for more than two people who hijacked a truck belonging to Netcargo in Windhoek during the early hours of yesterday morning at Onethindi near Ondangwa in Oshikoto Region.
Chief Inspector Golden Naanda said yesterday that the driver and his assistant stopped at Onethindi to check the lights of the truck, which was carrying groceries to businesses in Oshakati. According to the Police, two armed men suddenly appeared and ordered the driver to hand over the truck keys and get into the backseat. The hijackers drove towards Ondangwa and stopped somewhere along the road, where a bakkie was waiting for them. Both the driver and his assistant were told to get off the truck and were blindfolded. They were driven off in the bakkie and dropped in the veld about 25 kilometres north of Ondangwa. They stayed there until daylight and then asked for help from nearby villagers, who took them to the Ondangwa Police station.Police found the truck abandoned about five kilometres north of Ondangwa. Some of the cargo was missing.Inspector Naanda said it was the first incident of its kind in the North.”They might be professional criminals because they used diesel from the truck to wipe off their fingerprints,” he said.According to the Police, two armed men suddenly appeared and ordered the driver to hand over the truck keys and get into the backseat. Some of the cargo was missing.Inspector Naanda said it was the first incident of its kind in the North.”They might be professional criminals because they used diesel from the truck to wipe off their fingerprints,” he said.
