World Cup draw favours Namibia

THE Fifa World Cup draw has been lenient to Namibia.

The Brave Warriors have avoided traditional West and North African giants after the draw for the 2010 World Cup was concluded in Durban, South Africa yesterday. Namibia was drawn in Group 2, alongside another Zone Six powerhouse Zimbabwe, Guinea and Kenya, who must still register a win against Namibia. The news is likely to be accepted very well by both the Namibia Football Association and the technical staff of the senior national team.Unlike in the past when Namibia had to battle mostly North African giants, the draw is considered to be very fair to Namibia this time.Guinea are no pushovers and have raised a few eye-brows with their performances of late.In particular Guinea surprised pundits in recent Africa Cup of Nations competitions where they qualified beyond the opening group matches. However, their pedigree on the international arena is not that high and with the Brave Warriors playing very well at the moment, Namibia could easily snatch four points against them. However, Zimbabwe who have made it a habit to beat Namibia, right from our maiden international friendly during our Independence celebrations in 1990, notwithstanding the fact that we beat them once in a Cosafa Cup match, are considered group favourites.Namibia was drawn in Group 2, alongside another Zone Six powerhouse Zimbabwe, Guinea and Kenya, who must still register a win against Namibia. The news is likely to be accepted very well by both the Namibia Football Association and the technical staff of the senior national team.Unlike in the past when Namibia had to battle mostly North African giants, the draw is considered to be very fair to Namibia this time.Guinea are no pushovers and have raised a few eye-brows with their performances of late.
