KAIZER Chiefs left behind their model of inconsistency and erratic ways to beat in-form Free State Stars 3-0 in their Absa Premiership match played at Olympia Park on Wednesday night.
Kinnah Phiri’s charges, who wanted to show that their lofty spot in the league was not a fluke, collapsed when it mattered most – in the second half – as Mabhuti Khanyeza, Onismor Bhasera and birthday boy Shaun Bartlett scored goals to record Chiefs’ second league win of the season. Hard work and immaculate preparations have been Ella Koto’s strong points and they looked to be shedding their “one season” tag which has haunted them for the past two years, but their pathetic display in the second half exposed them badly. For Chiefs’ expectant fans the victory was a huge relief but Stars’ strikers, notably Diyo Sibisi, must shoulder the blame as they missed several one-on-one chances to the dismay of their own fans.Such had been the paucity of service that Chiefs’ first real chance only came six minutes before the break, but Kaizer Motaung refused to score, indicating their ineptness in front of goal.Allowed acres of space, Khanyeza open the scoring in the 46th minute and from there, Chiefs did as they pleased.By adding two goals through Bhasera in the 77th and Bartlett in the last minute, Chiefs’ intensions of moving up the ladder were evident and, judging by their turnaround, it looks like the sleeping giant has awakened. The results of other PSL matches on Wednesday were as follows: Ajax Cape Town 5 Wits University 2, Black Leopards 2 Orlando Pirates 3, Bloemfontein Celtic 0 Mamelodi Sundowns 1, Jomo Cosmos 0 AmaZulu 0, Lamontville Golden Arrows 0 Santos 1, SuperSport United 1 Platinum Stars 1, Thanda Royal Zulu 1 Moroka Swallows 1.Nampa-SapaHard work and immaculate preparations have been Ella Koto’s strong points and they looked to be shedding their “one season” tag which has haunted them for the past two years, but their pathetic display in the second half exposed them badly. The results of other PSL matches on Wednesday were as follows: Ajax Cape Town 5 Wits University 2, Black Leopards 2 Orlando Pirates 3, Bloemfontein Celtic 0 Mamelodi Sundowns 1, Jomo Cosmos 0 AmaZulu 0, Lamontville Golden Arrows 0 Santos 1, SuperSport United 1 Platinum Stars 1, Thanda Royal Zulu 1 Moroka Swallows 1.Nampa-Sapa
