THE northern town of Ongwediva will be the centre of attraction on November 10 when the Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy hosts its Boxing Bonanza there.
In action will be Namibia’s WBA inter-continental champion Paulus ‘The Hitman’ Moses, who will trade blows with Zimbabwe’s Ephraim Mangenda in a ten-round lightweight bout. It will be the main bout of the evening and will be supported by nine other bouts on the undercard, involving some of Namibia’s top professional boxers.Mangenda is the lightweight champion in his native Zimbabwe with a record of 15 wins, one draw and two losses from 18 professional fights. In the main supporting bout, WBA Pan-African Junior welterweight champion Jason ‘Taks’ Naule will step into the ring against Zimbabwe’s Elson Muhampi in a bout that is scheduled for eight rounds.Naule, who is still undefeated in his professional career, will be hoping for a 13th consecutive victory against Muhampi, who boasts a record of 11 wins and four losses from 15 fights. In the Super Middleweight category, Vikapita Meroro, will be hoping for another sensational victory against Theophilus Mpakane over six rounds.Meroro, who is described by his mentor Nestor Tobias “as a champion in the making” boasts an impressive nine wins and one loss from his ten fights since entering the paid ranks.Mpakane, however, does not have a very impressive record with only two wins, a draw and four defeats from his seven fights to date.It will be the second time that Mpakane takes on Meroro, after the Namibian comprehensively beat him last year.Namibia’s up-and-coming lightweight boxer Jatoroora Tjingaveta is scheduled to meet South Africa’s Andile Ndlela in the lightweight category over four rounds.Zimbabwe’s Peter Pambeni will once again return to Namibia following his victory against Siegfried Kaperu at the Telecom Namibia Box and Dine event in August this year. But this time around, Pambeni is expected to show his mettle against the talented Junias Amunyela, who is still undefeated after eight professional fights.KASHELA GETS A REMATCH In another interesting fight, flamboyant Daniel ‘Openfire’ Kashela will be hoping to avenge defeat against compatriot Tommy Hango, who defeated Kashela unanimously on points during their last fight in Windhoek last month.According to boxing promoter Tobias, both boxers have opted for the rematch after expressing dismay at their last fight against each other. The two boxers will battle it out in the welterweight division over six rounds. In the featherweight category over six rounds, Namibia’s Siegfried Kaperu will come up against Koos Sibiya, who has been rather inconsistent in his professional career as his record demonstrates. From his 17 fights, he has won seven, lost eight and drawn two.Kaperu boasts a record of 12 wins, and four losses from his 16 professional fights. In other fights, Namibian bantamweight champion, Paulus ‘The Rock’ Ambunda will be hoping to extend his short professional career with a third consecutive win when he trades blows with Peteneni Elago over four rounds. In the junior welterweight division Phillip Witbooi will be making his second appearance in the ring as a professional boxer and will come up against Gottlieb Ndokosho over four rounds.Abraham Ndaendapo will also be seeking his second win as a professional boxer when he trades blows with Peter Malakia in the junior lightweight category over four rounds.Telecom Namibia, NamPower and Air Namibia will sponsor the boxing event.Telecom Namibia and NamPower have forked out N$160 000 and N$75 000 respectively towards the staging of the event.Namibia SportIt will be the main bout of the evening and will be supported by nine other bouts on the undercard, involving some of Namibia’s top professional boxers.Mangenda is the lightweight champion in his native Zimbabwe with a record of 15 wins, one draw and two losses from 18 professional fights. But this time around, Pambeni is expected to show his mettle against the talented Junias Amunyela, who is still undefeated after eight professional fights.
