GRANT me space in your popular paper to express my views on the current debacle regarding insults that the former President, Dr Sam Nujoma is accustomed to throwing at individuals.
Most of the victims of his threats are actually supposed to be his ‘sons and daughters’ if he truly is the ‘Founding Father of the Nation’. It seems the former President and his avid supporters, the bootlickers, have long forgotten that his and their rights begin only where the rights of each and every other Namibian ends. This means that neither Mr Nujoma nor his unrelenting praise singers are special.Only that they enjoy his undivided support as long as they pamper him. Most Namibians have heard Mr Nujoma calling others all sorts of names, including homosexuals, imperialists, unpatriotic and so forth.Of late, he began threatening to shoot people and even to develop nuclear weapons, thanks to the uranium that is found in Namibia. We all agree that there is poverty in this country affecting the unemployed and those who are paid paltry salaries.Although this situation touches not only the former Plan combatants, it is sad to see and hear Mr.Nujoma who is, or used to be, regarded by some as the ‘founding father of the nation’ dismissing an entire group of people who contributed so much towards the struggle for Independence. No matter how unreasonable the demands by the former combatants might be, Nujoma must understand that there are too many incidents involving embezzlement schemes that took place during his almost four terms in office. It is exactly this state of affairs that gave an impression that Namibia has enough money to throw around, and the ex-combatants feel excluded. Some examples of waste are: Air Namibia, ODC, SSC issue and the former President’s own super retirement package. If it is true that Nujoma called the Plan ex-combatants ‘bandits just like Kandara’, there is no choice but to once again have a look at the Avid saga.It was Mr Nujoma himself who was mentioned in the Avid issue, and not ex-combatants.Nujoma, at this meeting with the ex-combatants simply decided to forget that another praise singer, Paulus Kapia, who is now being paid by Swapo after his forfeiture of a ministerial post, was fired because of his association with Kandara. But Nujoma never wagged a finger at Kapia. In conclusion, what is Nujoma’s stand on a hate letter targeting the Kwanyama-speaking people while praising him at the same time? How come he did not call a hasty press conference to defend the Kwanyamas like he defended himself at the height of the Kandara fiasco? No true Founding Father of a nation will ever display a bad attitude towards his sons and daughters the way Sam Nujoma does.Down with talk of shootings and atomic bombs.Shiti sha Kalelofenya Via e-mail Note: This letter has been shortened EdIt seems the former President and his avid supporters, the bootlickers, have long forgotten that his and their rights begin only where the rights of each and every other Namibian ends.
