Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) spokesperson, Mulauli Siluka, says about 36 000 people registered to vote in the forthcoming November presidential and parliamentary election by the end of the first day (Monday).

Speaking on Desert Radio on Tuesday, Siluka said while there is no evidence to prove that young people are not keen on registering because of the long queues, it is important for them to be encouraged to register.

“As an election commission we are doing what we can to encourage everyone to register to vote. It is an important exercise and everyone must participate,” he said.

Acknowledging that the process has not been smooth, Siluka said they are working hard to improve and register as many people as possible.
