Namibia congratulates Ramaphosa on re-election as president

President Nangolo Mbumba has congratulated South African president Cyril Ramaphosa on his re-election as his country’s head of state.

Ramaphosa on Friday secured his second term as president after the African National Congress (ANC) struck a coalition government deal with political rivals before the first sitting of the country’s parliament following recent elections.

“I am confident that president Ramaphosa will continue to lead the fraternal people of South Africa to greater heights,” Mbumba said in a message on Saturday.

Mbumba said Namibia and South Africa are bound by a shared history of struggle against apartheid.

“Our collective triumph against apartheid and our ability to work purposefully on the difficult work of nation building, development, shared prosperity and consolidation of our young democracies provide a sound basis to strengthen our bilateral relations,” Mbumba stated.
