The death toll in the B1 road accident that occurred on Tuesday has risen to nine.
Police confirmed on Tuesday that a woman who was transported to the Otjiwarongo State Hospital was pronounced dead on arrival.
Initially, eight people were reported dead in a head-on collision involving a sedan and a Toyota Fortuner.
The accident happened 20 kilometres outside of Otavi, along the Otjiwarongo-Otavi highway.
Community policing sub-divison senior inspector Maureen Mbeha says investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
The person who died at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital was the wife of a Brazilian national.
They were travelling together in a white Toyota Fortuner before the crash.
Mbeha says the couple allegedly tried to overtake a vehicle travelling in the same direction and failed to negotiate the situation, resulting in a head-on collision with a black sedan travelling towards Otjiwarongo.
The seven-seater had nine occupants, including the driver.
Eight of the occupants died, and one female passenger survived.
The police are yet to release the names of the deceased.
Meanwhile, the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund has extended its condolences to the families affected.
