Namibia is celebrating the 27th anniversary of World Music Day on Saturday.
The Fete de la musique, also known as World Music Day, is an annual music celebration, celebrated on 21 June.
Originating from France in 1982, this vibrant festival now spans over 120 countries.
For the past 27 years, the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) has been facilitating a free day of music performances in Windhoek.
Event organiser Oliver Inambao says on this day, artists showcase their talent by showing their audiences what they are capable of.
“We would like to appreciate the sponsors and the artist. The artists do not get paid, it’s just for them to showcase their work,” he says.
This year, FNCC will have different local towns participating in the World Music Day on 22 June.
According to FNCC social media, the event will take place in Windhoek, Swakopmund, Ondangwa and Katima Mulilo from 10h00 until 18h00.
In Windhoek, all music lovers will meet at 118 Robert Mugabe Avenue, Open Maket at Katima Mulilo, Sun Valley Entertainment park at Ondangwa and the Swakopmund amphitheater.
Entry is free of charge.
Musicians of all genres, both amateur and professional, will perform free concerts in the streets, parks and public spaces, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere that brings communities together through the universal language of music.
