Another independent candidate has joined the presidential race for the upcoming elections in November.
Kunene regional coordinator of the Republican Party (RP) Lisbeth Kaumbi (42) says she will transform Namibia into a developed country in five years if elected as president.
Kaumbi announced to The Namibian on Wednesday that she will throw in a bid for the presidential race as an independent candidate.
“Let me lead you and I will ensure that Namibia migrates from a developing country to a developed country in five years,” she says.
Kaumbi says her concerns about high inflation, unemployment and interest rates has made her run as presidential candidate.
Meanwhile, RP president Henk Mudge says he is shocked by Kaumbi’s decision.
“It’s absolutely ridiculous! If people like her can wake up and decide to run as president, one wonders what’s wrong with this country,” says Mudge.
He said Kaumbi is young and inexperienced.
“Our member of parliament Herlinde Tjiveze is in the region trying to analyse the situation. She is instead supposed to try things in the party and go to parliament,” says Mudge.
Kaumbi, who joins Swapo presidential candidate Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, and independent candidates Rosa Namises, Lydia Kandetu and Ally Angula as female candidates, says she wants to end the practice of oppressing women, and promote the elevation of women to their rightful place as equal partners and leaders.
