The vice president of the Congress of Democrats (CoD), Vaino Amuthenu, says former Namibia Freedom Fighters (NEFF) member Michael Amushelelo has reached out to him, asking if the party still exists.
Amuthenu said Amushelelo called him days after he resigned from the NEFF.
Amushelelo resigned from the NEFF 10 days ago following the deregistration of the party by the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN).
The NEFF, which had two seats in the National Assembly, was deregistered after it failed to publish audited financial reports.
“I am not aware of Amushelelo joining CoD but he called me days after he resigned from the NEFF asking me if CoD was still registered or if it had been deregistered like the NEFF,” Amuthenu said.
He added that if Amushelelo “is still interested in joining he might call me back. We differ in ideology. Maybe he will change his ideology.”
Amuthenu said that if Amushelelo wants to join the party, he is welcome as the party is growing on a daily basis.
He denied suggestions that he wanted to co-opt Amushelelo into the party.
Amushelelo on Wednesday said he will announce his new political home at a media briefing in Windhoek.
Asked whether he is joining CoD, he declined to comment.
