Roads Authority, Namibian police sign agreement to enhance road safety

The Roads Authority together with the Namibian police force have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance road safety.

The signing ceremony was held in Windhoek at the police headquarters on Wednesday morning.

According to Roads Authority executive director Conrad Lutombi, the signing of this MoU between the two entities is a partnership that symbolises their shared dedication to enhance road safety.

“This MoU represents more than just a formal agreement; it is a testament to our joint resolve to work together for the betterment of the Namibian people.

“By aligning our resources and expertise, we aim to create a more effortless and secure framework for road safety and law enforcement operations, benefiting every citizen,” Lutombi said.

He said efforts made by the RA to develop Namibia’s road infrastructure is a testament to how far they have come to achieve their goals.

“In recent years, the challenges we face in managing vehicle registrations and ensuring road safety has become increasingly complex. The rise in vehicles on our roads and the evolving nature of crime demands a more coordinated approach,” he added.

He said the two entities will enhance training exchange, capacity building, information exchange and integration between their systems, enabling the Namibian Police Force to access real-time information on vehicle data.

Police inspector general Joseph Shikongo said the agreement will solidify a partnership that is pivotal to enhancing the safety and security of the nation’s roads and communities.

“This agreement is not just a formality but a strategic alignment of our resources, expertise,
and objectives,” he said.

Shikongo said they aim to foster a culture of continuous learning and professional
development.

“This will ensure that our personnel are well-
equipped with the latest knowledge and skills to tackle the ever-evolving challenges of law enforcement and road safety,” he said.
