The body of former minister of education, arts and culture, Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, arrived at Mariental on Wednesday.

The ministry of education, as well as local authorities and traditional authorities formed a guard of honour as her body was escorted through the streets in several towns this week.

On Monday, president Nangolo Mbumba conferred her an official funeral.

Since Wednesday morning, various pupils, accompanied by community members, lined the streets singing songs and reading scriptures during street processions in Windhoek, Kalkrand, Rehoboth and Mariental.

An official memorial is expected to be held in her honour on Friday at Mariental by the state.
Her husband, Ghenno Himarwa, announced that she will be buried at Mariental on Saturday.
