The Namibia Hockey Union (NHU) is appealing for financial assistance to send teams to the Central South Africa qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).
Namibia’s national men and women’s outdoor teams will be in action at the qualifier in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 15 to 25 August.
Namibia will compete against Zimbabwe, Zambia and Eswatini, with the top two nations in the men and women’s competitions progressing to the Afcon finals next year.
In a recent message on its social media sites, the Namibian hockey supporters group posted about the ‘Operation back-a-player’ initiative, which aims to raise funds for the players.
The NHU said the teams were preparing for the qualifiers which were a “crucial step” towards Afcon next year.
“These qualifiers are a significant opportunity for our athletes to showcase their talent and represent Namibia on the international stage,” the NHU noted.
Any contributions and support would help the teams reach the milestone, noted the NHU.
“Your generosity will directly aid our players with essential expenses such as travel and accommodation. Payments should be made to the NHU’s bank account with the reference BPPlayerNameZim. Let’s come together as a community and make this journey possible for our talented athletes,” noted the NHU.
Bank details and more information can be obtained from the NHU’s social media platforms or from Brenda Honiball at 081 561 9849.
