Organiser defends Spitzkoppe rock concert

THE organiser of the Spitzkoppe rock concert, Mihail Mihaylov, says the aim of the event is to draw attention to the need of protecting the environment – in this case, to protect the Spitzkoppe area against mining and building projects.

Mihaylov was responding to a statement by Earthlife Namibia’s Bertchen Kohrs, who called on Government to prevent the concert from taking place because of its expected impact on the environment. “Earthlife does not understand that we share the same aim.We should rather come together instead of working against each other,” Mihaylov said.”There is no way of destroying the place through music.Music is the best way to draw people’s attention,” he said.Kohrs maintained that the concert would attract masses of vehicles and people, who would sleep over there.”Imagine the littering, and would toilets be set up around the area?
